CL Forwarded to Prosecution Over Unregistered Agency Operations; Kang Dong Won Cleared

It has been reported that 2NE1‘s CL is facing legal repercussions regarding the operations of her independent label.

On January 23 KST, the Seoul Yongsan Police announced that they are forwarding CL to the prosecution. The charges involve operating her one-woman agency, Very Cherry, without the mandatory legal registration required for entertainment businesses in South Korea.

CL Forwarded to Prosecution Over Unregistered Agency Operations; Kang Dong Won Cleared

CL established Very Cherry back in 2020 to manage her solo endeavors. However, police investigations concluded that the company had been conducting business as an entertainment agency for approximately five years without completing the necessary registration steps mandated by the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act.

In a parallel case, CEO ‘A’ of AA Group—the agency representing top actor Kang Dong Won—is also being forwarded to the prosecution on identical charges of operating an unregistered agency. Fans of the actor can breathe a sigh of relief, however; police have officially cleared Kang Dong Won of any charges, determining that he played no role in the management or administrative operations of the company.

These legal moves are part of a broader crackdown on unregistered entertainment companies that surfaced around September of last year. Following the heightened scrutiny, numerous celebrities running independent labels argued they were unaware of the specific registration requirements, leading to a rush of registrations by the end of 2025.
