Former WINNER member Nam Tae Hyun has officially received a one-year prison sentence following a severe drunk driving incident. The singer was also ordered to pay a fine of 1 million KRW (approximately 675 USD). This recent legal trouble comes while he was already serving probation for a prior drug conviction from January 2024.
Reckless Driving Incident Details
The specifics of the DUI incident highlight a severe breach of South Korean traffic laws. Nam was caught driving at a staggering 182 km/h in a designated 80 km/h zone, with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.122%, well above the legal limit. During this reckless drive, his vehicle collided with a central divider on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro highway, though thankfully no injuries were reported.

Court’s Verdict and Probation Violation
Because this DUI occurred while Nam was on probation, the court handed down a strict one-year prison sentence. However, the presiding court did not issue an immediate detention order, citing no risk of flight or evidence tampering. During his final court appearance, the singer delivered a formal statement of apology for his actions.

Nam Tae Hyun first stepped into the spotlight in 2014 when he debuted with the hit group WINNER under YG Entertainment. He ultimately left the agency after two years to pursue a different musical path. Following his departure, he formed and fronted his own band, South Club.
